In April 2022 we secured a grant of £8,900 from the National Lottery Community Fund "Together for our Planet" programme. The grant is for a project called Net Zero with Trees and Bees. This project used existing environmental data and mapping to help us understand how our local work can connect into a bigger picture across the Lakes and Cumbria. Based on these maps we will undertake more detailed surveys in selected areas in and around Ambleside.
We expect that there will be some training available for local community members to undertake some of these surveys. With this information, we will develop a three year outline plan for projects and practical work on tree maintenance, planting and other habitat creation to help address climate change and biodiversity loss. Delivery of this plan would be subject to availability of volunteers and will enable us to have the evidence lined up to apply for funding to undertake this work, where required.
As part of the project, we created communications material to help engage the wider community on the climate and nature crisis.
