Freshers day at the University of Cumbria. And a chance to see Incredible Edible Ambleside's raised beds.

Ambleside Sports Day
A to Z - Ambleside to Zero Carbon had a very good day at Ambleside Sports on Thursday 25th July. We had a table in the craft tent and spoke to a large number of visitors and locals about the unfolding climate emergency and our ambition for Ambleside to become carbon neutral by 2030. We provided leaflets with ideas on how to reduce carbon emissions on a personal level and how to access the internet search engine 'Ecosia' which plants a tree for every 45 searches you make. Another initiative is AmblesideRefill scheme which puts taps on the map for local participating establishments, shops and cafes. The Refill App enables smart phone users to locate the nearest refill, for their water bottle and in consequence reduce the number of single use plastic bottles.
For a little fun we ran a competition to guess the total number of miles travelled by a selection of fruit and vegetables displayed in a basket. We had a total of 40 entrants with the winner receiving a prize of afternoon tea for two, compliments of Rattle Ghyll Cafe. Along with our food miles menu it was a great way to highlight just how far some of our food travels.
The correct answers to the competition are displayed
