What it’s all about?
The United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) produced a report in October 2018 which implied that we had only 12 years in which to turn things around and prevent global warming going out of control and leading to runaway climate change.
A large number of Ambleside residents therefore came together to do everything in their power, locally and nationally, to avert a global climate catastrophe.
We set up a number of groups to help ourselves and others to contribute to the effort needed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, working on such diverse issues as planting trees, increasing biodiversity, growing fruit and vegetables, helping residents to understand where their home are losing heat or if they could benefit from fitting solar panels, reducing water pollution, and tackling traffic problems and their associated emissions. We encourage and support members to lobby local and national politicians, businesses and people of influence to address the problem of climate change seriously and vigorously.
We seek to value and respect each person and their input and to be a place where people can share their thoughts and their feelings about the accelerating degradation of the earth and the imminent danger we face.
We meet once a month, often inviting researchers, authors and speakers on climate change and biodiversity to discuss these issues with us.
